The Pale Horse

Behold, the days come, says the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land: Not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: And they shall run to and fro to seek the Word of the Lord, and shall not find it. For this shall the Earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: Because I have purposed it and I will not turn back from it.

Rise up, you women who are at ease; hear My voice: Upon the land of My people shall come up thorns and briers; until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness is a fruitful field. Then, judgment shall dwell in the wilderness and righteousness will remain in the fruitful field.

For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all the ungodliness and unrighteousness of men: Because when they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

I Am the Lord, and there is none else. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create Evil: I the Lord do all these things. I will keep the feet of saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no Man prevail. Dan shall be a serpent by the way, that bites the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.

“Come!” Take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus: Thus, says the Lord God: You have been in Eden, the garden of God: They shall bring you down to the pit. Because your heart is lifted up and you have said, I sit in the seat of God. Alas, alas that great city: Its merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all wood, and all vessels of ivory, and all vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men!

Thus, says the Lord: All the tithes of the land are the Lord’s: They are holy unto the Lord. All the best of the oil, and all the best of the wine, and of the wheat, the first fruits of them which they shall offer to the Lord. And Solomon sent to the king of Tyre, saying: I build a house to the Name of the Lord my God. Then the king of Tyre answered in writing: I have sent a cunning man who is the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skillful to work in gold, and in silver, in stone, and in fine linen, in purple, in blue, and in crimson; and in timber, also to grave any manner of graving, in brass, in iron, and to find out every device which shall be put to him. Now therefore: The wheat, and the barley, the oil, and the wine, which my lord have spoken of, let him send them.

And I looked and behold: The sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the Earth: To them was given power. And the shapes of the locusts were like horses prepared for battle and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Greek tongue is Apollyon. And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And its rider's name was Death. And they were given authority over a fourth of the Earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence. Thus, says the Lord: That My Name may be declared throughout all the Earth.

And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say: A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny. A divine sentence: A just weight and balance are the Lord’s. It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness. And it was commanded to them that they should not hurt any green thing, but only those men who do not have the seal of God in their foreheads: Do not hurt the oil and the wine.

But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the loving kindness of God forever. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of Death, I will fear no Evil. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies: You anoint my head with oil; for God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.

Let me sing now for my well-beloved, a song concerning His vineyard: My well-beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hill and planted it with the choicest vine. Then He expected it to produce good grapes, but it produced only worthless ones! Jesus Christ came for a covenant of the people, for a light to the Gentiles and said: "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vine-dresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit." And when Jesus had taken a cup and given thanks, He said: “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, he said: You have kept the good wine until now. For you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. When I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land.

Gather together, that I may tell you what will happen to you: All the congregation came to the wilderness of Sin. These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the Earth: The black horses which are there go forth to the north and the white go forth after them; and the grizzled go forth towards the south. They are terrible and dreadful: Their judgment shall follow. Their horses are swifter than leopards and fiercer than evening wolves: And their horsemen shall spread themselves, they shall fly as the eagle that hastens to eat. And they shall scoff at the kings: They shall deride every stronghold, for nation shall rise against nation and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes.

The adversaries of the Lord shall be broken to pieces: The Lord shall judge the ends of the Earth, for they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence. The path of the just is as the shining light but the way of the wicked is as darkness: For his heart will work iniquity, to utter error against the Lord, to empty the souls of the hungry.

Then thundered the horses' hooves: Galloping, galloping, His mighty steeds go. They fought from Heaven: O my soul, you have trodden down strength! For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. The owl also and the raven shall dwell in it. They shall call the nobles to the kingdom, but none shall be there. And thorns shall come up in her palaces: And it shall be a court for owls. There shall the great owl make her nest and gather under her shadow: They are an abomination.

No man repented of his wickedness, saying: What have I done? Everyone turned to his course, as the horse rushes into the battle. And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: And when you are gathered together within your cities, I will send pestilence among you and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. And they shall deliver you your bread by weight: You shall eat and not be satisfied.

And I said to Him: What are these two olive branches which empty the golden oil through the two golden pipes? Then He said: These are the two anointed ones, who stand by the Lord of the whole Earth: Pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always. The seven candlesticks which you saw are the seven churches. I will give power to my two witnesses and they shall prophesy. These have the power to shut Heaven, that it does not rain in the days of their prophecy; and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the Earth with all plagues. For a fire is kindled in my anger, and shall burn to the lowest hell, and shall consume the Earth: They shall be burnt with hunger and devoured with burning heat.

And the rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues did not repent of the works of their hands: That they should not worship devils. Neither did they repent of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts. If you will not be reformed by these things but will walk contrary to Me, then will I punish you seven times for your sins. God says: You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you. So then, because you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of My mouth. Because you say: I am rich; and do not know that you are wretched, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that you may be rich. He that has no money; come, buy, and eat; without money and without price. Then shall the kingdom of Heaven be like virgins, who took their lamps to meet the bridegroom. And the foolish said to the wise: Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered: Go rather buy for yourselves. Listen diligently to me, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself. Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you.

And Jesus said to them: I am the bread of life, he who comes to me shall never hunger. As new-born babies, desire the sincere milk of the Word. I am the living bread who came down from Heaven: If any man eats of this bread, he shall live forever. And He took bread and said: This is My body which is given for you, this do in remembrance of Me. The Almighty humbled you to hunger, that He might make you know that man does not live by bread only, but by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord. You shall also consider in your heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness: For they shall be filled. The Lord knows the days of the upright: In the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

And the Lord said: Strong meat belongs to them who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both Good and Evil. Who then is that faithful steward, to give them their portion of meat in due season? You are my witnesses, says the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: That you may know and believe Me, and understand that I Am He: Before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me.

And He said to me: These are the true sayings of God. Therefore, thus says the Lord: “Because you have spoken this Word: Behold, I am making My Words in your mouth fire and this people wood, and it will consume them.”

Now there was a famine in the land. The Almighty turns rivers into a wilderness, a fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell there. Thus, says the Lord: I have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places; yet have you have not returned to Me. If you will not listen to the voice of the Lord your God, to observe to do all His commandments; then all these curses will come upon you because of the wickedness your doings: The Lord shall make the pestilence cleave to you, until He has consumed you off the land. The Lord will smite you with an inflammation and with an extreme burning until you perish. The Lord will make the rain of your land powder and dust.

There arose a mighty famine in that land. And they said: I perish with hunger! I will arise and say: Father, I have sinned against Heaven and before you. But the Father says to His servants: Let us eat and be merry; for this is my son who was dead and is alive again. For everyone who asks receives and he who seeks finds. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches: To him who overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of Life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Blessed are they who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb. Therefore pray: Our Father who are in Heaven, hallowed be your Name. Your kingdom come, your will be done in Earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses.

Then, go your way, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God now accepts your works. Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine within your house, your children like olive plants around your table. For the Lord your God brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills; a land of wheat, and barley, and vines; a land of olive oil; a land where you shall eat bread without scarcity. And wine that gladdens the heart of Man, and oil to make his face shine, and bread which strengthens Man's heart!
