Sword of the Spirit

‘The enemy said’ in his heart: ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them!’

‘The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.’

‘And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat there to take peace from the Earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.’

But ‘he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.’

The angel of the LORD ‘had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shines in his strength.’

To all the sinners of the Earth, ‘these things says He who has the sharp sword with two edges’: Repent, or else I will come unto you quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.’

If I whet my glittering sword, and my hand takes hold on Judgment; I will render vengeance to my enemies, and will reward them that hate me.’

‘And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S.’

‘A noise shall come even to the ends of the Earth; for the LORD has a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, says the LORD.’

‘A sword is upon the liars,’ ‘all the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say: the evil shall not overtake nor prevent us;’ ‘that all flesh may know that I, the LORD, have drawn forth my sword out of its sheath: it shall not return any more.’

Son of man, prophesy, and say: Thus, says the LORD; Say: A sword, a sword is sharpened, and also furbished’:

When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say: The Sword of the LORD!’ Say: ‘You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied’ with ‘valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword, and to shoot with bow, and skillful in war’, who ‘quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned the armies of the aliens to flight.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue.’ ‘God has spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongs to God.’

‘Be afraid of the sword: for wrath brings the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a Judgment.’

Woe to the idol shepherd that leaves the flock! The sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.’

You approach this Day to battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be terrified because of them’: For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the Earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great Day of God Almighty.’

‘In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.’

‘You shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand still, and see the Salvation of the LORD.’

‘O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle.’

‘He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increases strength.’ ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts.’

‘But truly, I am full of power by the Spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might’

And take the helmet of salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God’: ‘For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.’ ‘Yea, a sword shall pierce through your own soul also, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.’

‘There is no man that has power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither has he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.’

‘But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil.’

‘Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart’: ‘Who is like you, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of your help and who is the sword of your excellency! And your enemies shall be found liars unto you.’

‘Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand.’

‘And He has made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand has He hidden me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver has He hidden me.’ ‘Why do you marvel at this? Or why do you look so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this’? ‘God is my strength and power: and he makes my way perfect.’

Then, the devil showed all the kingdoms of the world and their glory and said’: All this power will I give you, and the glory of them: for that is delivered to me; and to whoever I will, I give it.’

‘The power of darkness!’ ‘Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?’ ‘For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.’

Let every soul be subject to the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.’ ‘For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but unto us who are saved it is the power of God.’ ‘And my speech and my preaching were not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God’; ‘by the Word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left.’

‘You do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.’ ‘But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear Him, who after he has killed has power to cast into Hell.’

‘And they were astonished at His doctrine: for His word was with power.’ He ‘gave them power and authority over all devils’: ‘Behold, I give you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.’ ‘For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.’

‘For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.’

‘Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first, and consult whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an ambassador, and desires conditions of peace.’

‘Or else how can one enter in a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except by first binding the strong man? And then he will spoil his house.’

And in very deed for this cause have I raised you up, to show my power in you; and that my Name may be declared throughout all the earth.

‘You shall receive power after the Holy Spirit is come upon you.’

‘He that kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.’ Those who follow the devil will also go ‘down into Hell with him unto them that are slain with the sword’ of the LORD. ‘But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for He shall receive me.’

‘Now the God of hope fills you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit’; ‘to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them who are sanctified by faith.’

‘For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes’ ‘and is the exceeding greatness of his power to us who believe, according to the working of his mighty power’; ‘far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.’

‘Now unto him that can do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.’

‘Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might’ ‘for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.’ ‘Therefore, take unto you the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, with which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.’

‘For by Him were all things created, that are in Heaven, and that are in Earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him and for Him:’ ‘Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.’

‘In that Day, the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish Leviathan the piercing serpent, even Leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.’

He will ‘stand between the Earth and the Heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out,’ ‘upholding all things by the Word of his power.’

And He will be ‘clothed with a garment dipped in blood: and His Name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in Heaven follow him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.’ ‘And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treads the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.’

Then blow the trumpets also on every side of all the Earth, and shout out loud: The Sword of the LORD!’
