Arise, shine: For your light is come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the Earth, and gross darkness the people: But the Lord shall arise upon you, and his glory shall be seen upon you. Light is sown for the righteous and gladness for the upright in heart.
We have also a surer word of prophecy, unto which you do well that you take heed, as unto a light that shines in a dark place; until the day dawns, and the day star arises in your hearts: You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should proclaim the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Let your loins be girded about and your lights burning like men that wait for their Lord.
Behold, all you that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: Walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks that you have kindled. This shall you have of My hand: You shall lie down in sorrow, then shall your light break forth as the morning and your health shall spring forth speedily and your righteousness shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your reward. And if you draw out your soul to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall your light rise in obscurity, and your darkness will be as the noonday. This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you: That God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. For so has the Lord commanded us, saying: I have set you to be a light to the Gentiles, that you should be for salvation unto the ends of the Earth. For you were sometimes darkness, but now you are light in the Lord: Walk as Children of Light!
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light.
You are the light of the world: A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick and it gives light to all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.
Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun: But if a man lives many years and rejoices in them all, yet let him remember the days of darkness, for they shall be many; and let us put on the armor of light. You are the light of the world!
Where is the Way where Light dwells? And as for darkness, where is its place? Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God: He binds the floods from overflowing and the thing that is hidden, he brings forth to light. But where shall wisdom be found? The depth says: It is not in me; and the sea says: It is not with me. And to man He said: Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from Evil is understanding. And upon whom does not His light arise? Then I saw that wisdom excels folly, as far as light excels darkness: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the Children of Light.
How then can man be justified with God? Or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? Behold even to the moon: And it does not shine, yes, the stars are not pure in his sight. How much less man, that is a worm?
When I looked for good, then evil came unto me; and when I waited for light, there came darkness: They are of those that rebel against the light; they do know not its ways, nor abide in its paths. The murderer rising with the light kills the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief. The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying: No eye shall see me, and disguises his face. They do not know the light, for the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness. The way of peace they do not know and there is no judgment in their goings: They have made themselves crooked paths: Whoever goes there shall not know peace. We wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness. We are in desolate places as dead men.
But as for you all, do return and come now: For I cannot find one wise man among you. They change the night into day:
The light is short because of darkness. Let that day be darkness, let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it: Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. He shall be driven from light into darkness and chased out of the world. Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked and this is the place of him that does not know God. Who does not know in all these that the hand of the Lord has wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. He discovers deep things out of darkness and brings out to light the shadow of death. He increases the nations and destroys them.
I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came. I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I cried in the congregation. I beseech you, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight. Did I not weep for him that was in trouble? Was my soul not grieved for the poor? He shall pray to God, and He will be favorable unto him: And he shall see His face with joy, for He will render unto man his righteousness. He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light: To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
And God saw the light, that it was good: And God divided the light from the darkness. Behold, He spreads his light upon it and covers the bottom of the sea.
Have you entered the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the search of the depth? Have the gates of death been opened to you? Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death? Can you draw out Leviathan with a hook? Will he make a covenant with you? Will you take him for a servant for ever? Will you play with him as with a bird? His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a closed seal. Out of his nostrils go smoke, as out of a seething pot or cauldron. His heart is as firm as a stone; yes, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone. He beholds all high things: He is a king over all the Children of Pride.
I sought the Lord: Let not the foot of pride come against me and let not the hand of the wicked remove me. There are the workers of iniquity fallen: They are cast down and shall not be able to rise. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your countenance, for you have delivered my soul from death: Will you not deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living? You break the heads of Leviathan in pieces and give him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness. For you are my lamp, O Lord: And the Lord will lighten my darkness. It is God that avenges me and that brings down the people under me. Therefore, I will give thanks unto you, O Lord, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto your Name.
The Lord thundered from Heaven and the Most High uttered His voice. He sent from above, He took me: He drew me out of many waters, He delivered me from my strong enemy and from them that hated me, for they were too strong for me. The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness: For I have kept the ways of the Lord and have not wickedly departed from my God. For all His judgments were before me, and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.
Yes, the darkness does not hide from you; but the night shines as the day: The darkness and the light are both alike to you. If I say: Surely the darkness shall cover me, even the night shall be light about me. For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day. The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Receive, I pray, the law from His mouth, and lay up His words in your heart. If you return to the Almighty, you shalt be built up, you shall put away iniquity far from your tabernacles. You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto you: And the light shall shine upon your ways. Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law does he meditate day and night. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to the rebellious children, says the Lord, that take counsel, but not of Me; and that cover with a covering, but not of My spirit, that they may add sin to sin.
Therefore, thus says the Holy One of Israel: Because you despise this Word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay there: Therefore, hell has enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: And their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoices, shall descend into it. And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled: And in that day, they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea, and if one looks to the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens. For the stars of Heaven and the constellations there shall not give their light: The sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
Unto the upright, there arises light in the darkness: He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. The entrance of your words gives light, it gives understanding to the simple: To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace; a light to lighten the Gentiles.
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: They that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them has the light shined. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say: Repent, for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to his own, and his own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name: Who were born of God.
Then Jesus spoke again to them, saying: I am the light of the world, he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. If any man walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him. While you have light, believe in the light, that you may be the Children of Light. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
I will also give you for a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation unto the end of the Earth. I the Lord have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand, and will keep you, and give you for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; and I will bring the blind by a way that they did not know: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them: I put on righteousness and it clothed me. Unto Me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel. And they waited for me as for the rain and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain. And the Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Violence shall no more be heard in your land, wasting nor destruction within your borders; but you shall call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise. The sun shall be no more your light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto you: For the Lord shall be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended.
Praise Him, sun and moon: Praise Him, all you stars of light. To Him that made great lights: For his mercy endures for ever. In the light of the King's countenance is life, and his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variable, neither shadow of turning. You are all the Children of Light, and the children of the day: We are not of the night, nor of darkness. But it is now made manifest by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death, and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. Our Lord Jesus Christ, only He has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach; whom no man has seen, nor can see: To whom be honor and power everlasting.
Darkness is past, and the true light now shines: Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness? In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them who do not believe, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
He that says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness even until now. And no marvel: For Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. He that loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: For whatsoever is made manifest is light. Therefore, he says: Awake you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light. He reveals the deep and secret things: He knows what is in the darkness and the light dwells with Him. Therefore, whatever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light, and that which you have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. Therefore, judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: And then shall every man have praise of God.
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore your eye is single, thy whole body shall be full of light. The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. But if your eye is evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
Give glory to the Lord your God, before he causes darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death, and makes it gross darkness. Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery were all nations deceived.
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil, I the Lord do all these things. Behold, the day of the Lord comes, and your spoil shall be divided in your midst. For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even unto the west; so, shall also the coming of the Son of man be. And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: And it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day.
And He carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of Heaven from God, having the glory of God: And her light was like a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; and the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: For the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is its light. And the nations of them who are saved shall walk in the light of it. These are they who came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne shall feed them and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. And they shall see His face; and His Name shall be in their foreheads. And there shall be no night there, for the Lord God gives them light: And the Children of Light shall reign for ever and ever!
